The following online conversation is one of thousands of interactions from www.thelife.com. There were many other email and chat exchanges between Maria and the staff and volunteers with TruthMedia.

March 16 she came to faith in Christ. As Ben, the chat room host, typed out the salvation prayer phrase by phrase she prayed along. Ben asked her if she would like some help to grow in her spiritual life and when she said yes, Ben passed her name on to the mentoring team.

March 17 - Janice was the mentor that responded, encouraged her and gave her some more information on her new life.

March 18 - AtheistGirl responded, "Hi this is AtheistGirl. I would like to thank you for writing to me. My real name is Maria by the way. I would love it if we could keep in touch like this! I really don't know much but I would love to learn more!!!  I do have one question though. What am I supposed to do now? I know I should start going to church and all but that can't be all that I'm supposed to do…"

March 19 - Janice responded sharing with her the importance of a personal quiet time, going to church, and other things.

March 22 - Maria responded back "... I went to church with some friends yesterday… I heard what you wrote to me at church yesterday. The guy on the stage said we need to read our Bible and pray everyday!! ...Well yesterday i went and got a Bible. I hope I got the right version there were like 10 of them!!! I got King James Version. Why are there so many different versions?"

March 23 - Janice responded with reasons for different Bible translations and encouraged her to continue attending church.

March 30 - Maria sent an email to Ben (who led her to the Lord earlier in a chat room) and said, "Hey its me sorry i haven't written in a while i have been very caught up in choir… Anyways thought i would let you know i am doing OK and my dad rededicated his life on Sunday night!! (whatever that means but i guess its a good thing lol)" …Maria

April 4 - Maria emailed Ben again to say, "…i have so many changes in my life right now and only half of them are spiritual!!! lol!  … i was asked to participate in a youth group trip to Israel this summer!! I had heard that your church can be like a second family but had no idea how close knit a youth group could be. it is so awesome the way God can change people. Sincerely your sister in Christ, Maria".

Obviously we could not include all the email interactions that took place, but we do get a glimpse of the power of the Internet at work:
  • First, to filter out of the thousands of visitors someone who was spiritually seeking.

  • Second, the Internet allows us to be able to share Christ is in a very personal way.

  • Third, it allows for almost immediate personal follow up

  • Fourth, when combined with the face to face ministry of a local church, it is an even more effective tool.

Elements involved in her journey:

  • The Passion Movie

  • Passion Movie advertising of some sort that told her about thelife.com (could be onscreen ads, the business cards they printed, Google ads, etc.)

  • Chat

  • Email

  • Local Church

  • Bible bought in a store

  • Family (father rededicated his life implies family involvement)

  • Church youth group

  • Church members who communicated acceptance. Prayed for her.
